John Zmirak has a smart article here on “Darwin’s Doubt” and the fact that the more we learn about science the more ridiculous the theory of atheistic evolution becomes.

Atheists have a problem. When they look at life on earth, every last trace of it — from single cells rife with complex microstructures, to the eagle’s eye and biologist’s brain — looks like the product of design. How do we explain the exquisite precision required for every biological action? At every level. From the careful production of just the right proteins to fuel each living cell and reproduce itself, to the stunning symbiotic relationships we see among species.

My favorite: The Pitcher Plant. Yes, the whole group of species, which deal with the lack of nitrogen in their soil by luring and catching insects. But even more a single, eccentric species. One which seems to have gone vegetarian. Instead of attracting bugs, it lures in bats. They are eager for shelter in the heat of the day. The plant gets its nutrients (you guessed it) from their poop. How does it attract them? By fashioning its flower to reflect the sounds they use in echo-location. In effect, the plant seems to say: “Central Air Conditioning, and Clean Restrooms.” Like some shiny roadside truck stop.

It’s illustrated by the picture I’ve included here, and whenever I’ve seen pictures like this of the “Ascent of Man” I’m reminded of something my Dad once said. We were looking at a National Geographic magazine article about some primitive jungle tribe and Dad said, “We think those people are more primitive than us and that we have come up from that, but what if their ancestors were actually much more sophisticated and smart and what we see now is a degradation of who they once were.”

So let’s say some tribe in the Amazon who are shooting monkeys with blowguns, existing on manioc root and the odd piece of bark were actually descended from the people who built Macu Picchu or some such great ancient civilization?

It’s an interesting concept.

So what if, instead of the ascent of man, the reverse is true? What if we are witnessing the descent of man? Oh yes, we have wonderful technology and are overcoming disease and poverty and everybody has an iPhone so they can play Candy Crush all day long, but what morally, culturally, artistically, spiritually we are actually in decline? One could argue that despite our affluence and education and health care most of us are actually less literate, accomplished and refined than our grandparents. I should tell you about my grandmother sometime…

I like standing on my head, so I’m going to start putting this about. We’re talking about the descent of man, not the ascent and those pictures of monkeys turning into humans are just a bunch of humanistic, atheistic garbage propaganda.

In fact our faith confirms that the descent of man is more true than the ascent of man. The other word for the descent of man is The Fall. We’ve fallen, and we’re still falling and our race is plummeting downward ever faster and we forgot to pack our parachute.

There’s only one thing to rescue us and reverse the fall. There’s only one source for man to ascend, and that was the Man who Ascended.

Otherwise known as the Second Adam.
