Wonderful article. You prove that it is not necessary to smack people over the head. Leading gently always works better.
Very clear, reasoned explanation, Father. As a convert who was formerly an Episcopalian, I appreciate the Holy Father’s pointing us toward the reason for worship. Thank you!
Wonderfully full yet “user-friendly” explanation of what our Holy Father is about…Again, and again, and again I say that I wish we lived closer to Greenville! Blessings, Jenny
Hello Father! Your article points to such a strong contrast between “competing” visions. I’m visiting Naples, Fl and went to a church that just opened last summer. No statues, pictures, paintings, kneelers or tabernacle… just 4 very large monitor screens embedded in the walls around the “worship space.” How iconically ironic for a “modern” Catholic church, nothing to look at but monitor screens during Mass! What is the “hermeneutic of continuity” for the next generation from this parish?
“…when we attend Mass we are entering the very throne room of the King…. If this is so, then the whole perspective shifts…”Indeed it does. Lately at Mass I’ve been reflecting on the Cloud of Witnesses, i.e., the saints who are attending the Divine Liturgy along with us. I try to imagine how the Consecration must look from their perspective. Given that their perceptions are no longer obscured by sin, somehow they must see the bread & wine become Body & Blood plainly and objectively. I suppose they can see all the sacraments operating as plain as day, and I try to imagine how this must look.
A helpful article thank youhighlighting how we stress one aspect of the liturgy at one timeand another at a different time.BlessingsBoscowww.liturgy.co.nz
