When I first arrived at St Joseph’s one of the kids was asked what he thought of the new chaplain and he said, “He preaches like a Baptist.” I took it as a compliment….sort of.
Anyway, you can judge for yourselves. I am thinking of making my homilies available through podcast, but before I invest time and money in doing this update I need some feedback from y’all:
- Would you listen to my weekly homily from St Mary’s?
- Would access to this be easier from my blog or my website?
- Would you pay for an automatic subscription service? This is where the podcast automatically feeds into your iPod or Personal Electronic Device
- If you would pay for a subscription, how much would expect to pay per week?
- If you found the homilies worthwhile would you share them with others?
Thanks for your views.
I would definitely listen every week. I would not pay for a subscription. I’m sure it would be worth it, but my husband and I are two college students with three young children, and I couldn’t justify the cost (I also don’t have an iPod or a PDA but I do have a cheap MP3 player). It doesn’t matter where it would be accessed from, I’d just bookmark wherever. And yes, I would pass along good homilies, if it was allowed. Oh, and for what it’s worth, I would pay $1 or $2 to download a homily that was good enough to hear more than once or twice. I just wouldn’t pay for a subscription.
I don’t think you preach like a baptist. What I’ve heard are thought-provoking homilies with plenty of meat, artfully done.I would probably listen to some. There are a lot of great podcasts out there and along with great movies, tv, books, and blogs my media list grows by the second.Access would be easiest via rss feed to podcast software (iTunes, Juice, etc.)Would not pay. There’s way too many great things already free.Subscriptions to most podcasts are free, just like subscriptions to blogs.Yes, I would share. Of all the homilies I’ve heard online, the ones I’ve told others about have been the Chicago Monks Podcast (esp. Br. Brendan’s), some of Fr. Barron’s, some of the Dominican House of Studies’.
I’d rather have them written down and collected into a book.
I would definitely listen to your homilies and would prefer them to be available via your blog since I read it much more frequently than your website. If the fee for an automatic subscription service was modest, then I would be willing to pay that as well, assuming that the audio/video feed was accessible at your blog site in addition to being directly sent to one’s personal device.Since I already share material from your blog, and/or suggest that others view material on your blog from time to time, I would also share the homilies.
Brother,I would listen, but cannot pay.His peace be yours in abundance,From the Middle East

1. Yes, indeed!2. Doesn’t matter3-5. Don’t own an IPod
I would love a podcast, and I would certainly be a regular listener. I really would enjoy the good content!I understand that podcasts such as those on iTunes (from where I get my other podcasts) are free. Where they are hosted doesn’t really matter, otherwise I would not be able to pay.I always share good material with others, and would try my best to promote it.All the best.
I sure would- financially I can’t pay,but would love to hear your homilies, yes I’d share them too, your blog is one of my daily stops- and have passed it on to others…Lord Bless!!
I’ve never heard or read one of your sermons, but I would really like to try.Is it possible that you could find someone in your parish who would be willing to do the work of podcasting your sermons. What a great ministry that might be for someone who has the skills to do it. Perhaps a high school student or young adult??
