This painting is situated in the East end of one of the most glorious buildings in Christendom: Kings College Chapel, Cambridge. I was chaplain at the choir school there for two years, (in my Anglican days, and was able to see this picture every day.
There ought to be a movement to restore sacred paintings to sacred buildings. They’re wasted in museums.
AMEN!-“There ought to be a movement to restore sacred paintings to sacred buildings. They’re wasted in museums.”
Excuse me Father, but is that a Rubens?
Hi Fr. Dwight,I agree that these sacred paintings would be more appreciated in sacred buildings, at the same time, by keeping them in the museums, they can be a form of evangelization. A painting like this could speak to a non-Christian’s heart about God, or someone who grew up in the faith, but is not practicing it. God is always working, His Spirit always moving…(just a thought)
Once again you introduce me to a beautiful painting!
A good idea in theory father but who would pay for the instalation of security in the churches, who would pay for the maintenance of the pictures and who would pay insurance?
