o surprise. Same goes here in the USofA. Still, history teaches us that we Catholics shine our brightest in the darkest of times. Perhaps this will be the cure for the 40 years of insanity that has plagued our beautiful Church from within – give us an enemy from without! So, I pray this prayer most sincerely, “Bring it on-eth!” ^_~
I’m not entirely sure where to pitch this … so ‘ere goes.I am an uncomfortable priest of the CofE. I was brought up by ARCIC-devoted Anglo-Catholic parents – my late father also being a priest of the CofE, to believe in and work for the unification of all Christians – the CofE in particular (that being our own back yard) with the Holy See; one flock and one shepherd.I don’t know per se from a personal perspective what it is like to be a Catholic in public life – other than by observation very uncomfortable, if you are determined to be faithful. But I do know this … take any stand in the context of the CofE that is faithful to Catholic teaching, be it on abortion, the ordination of women, the uniqueness of Christ, the need for full Communion of all Christians with Rome and all the rest … and the mix of (wilful) uncomprehension, (wilful) contempt, (wilful) derision, (wilful) hostility, (wilful) patronisation that one meets leads one to know that there is a road to be travelled if one is truly to be faithful and hasn’t (yet) beeen reconciled to the full Communion of the Holy See …
Can we get the actual article? I don’t trust the British press to tell me what he said.
Randy, there’s an abridged version of his essay to be found here: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/cormac-murphyoconnor-why-is-religious-belief-seen-as-a-private-eccentricity-1056658.htmlAnd the Independent’s leader on it is here: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/leading-articles/leading-article-faith-and-reason-1056661.htmlAnyone interested in anti-Catholicism in British and European politics should google Mary Honeyball, anti-Catholic and Mary Honeyball, Conor McGinn and see what it comes up with.
