I’m a pro-choice Catholic. That is to say, I’m in favor of doctors and nurses having the choice of whether they’ll participate in abortions or not.
Has anybody else noticed the blatant hypocrisy of the pro-choice crowd? Choice, choice, choice, but no choice if a medical professional wants to choose not to do an abortion.
I had an email saying that on Tues. March 3, Fr. Mitch Pacwa on EWTN informed his audience that the legislature is giving the public one week to give them feedback on how they feel regarding eliminating the “conscience rights” put in by Pres. Bush.
This would mean that doctors and nurses would not be able to refuse to participate in abortions because of their religious/moral views. If they do refuse they are open to be sued. They want to see if anyone cares. Let’s show them that we do!

Dear Mr President,
If you were truly pro-choice you would continue to allow doctors and nurses the choice not to participate in abortion.
Please do not remove this freedom from our health care professionals.
Work instead to guarantee the rights of hospitals and all health care professionals to make their own choice to be involved in abortion or not.
Sincerely yours,
Doing it now, Fr. Their hypocrisy is stunning. It’s coercion and if they rescind this protection, I hope Catholic hospitals and doctors all over the country close their doors.
Father – thanks for the intel. My e-mails have been sent to your Senators and mine!
I am going to call and write and I am also going to “steal” this article and post it on my blog.I think because I am telling you outright that I am stealing from you…that I will not be in too much trouble???? (please?)Okay, okay, I will get myself to the confessional…but it is for a good reason – to spread this as far and wide as we can.Thank you – and blessings –
I think this is the prelude to financial punishment of religious denominations when/if they refuse to perform same-sex marriages. This is on his agenda.
Do you know what agency is debating this? Last time it was HHR, and I think there was only a week to comment then, too.
I’ve written to those who accept email from non-constituents, and my own Senators, both Democrats.I never used to write my reps, but the Presidency of Obama has politicized me in a way I have never been.I forwarded on your blog post, Father. My daughter (who is expecting her first child) asked me not to send her “political” stuff. I replied that abortion is only political insofar as there is legislation in regard to it. Her reply? “Abortion is political.”I don’t understand my daughter…and it makes me sick at heart.

One other thing: I became pregnant with her outside of marriage. Abortion was legal, and I could have murdered her – if I had those sort of convictions. She doesn’t know that her father asked me if I’d consider an abortion. When I said no, the case was closed. He respected my beliefs, we married, and went on to have four more children, and (currently)four grandchildren.
I wrote to Boxer, Feinstein, and the Prez. Trailbee is absolutely right. Here’s what happened in CA today regarding Propostion 8.http://www.examiner.com/x-4107-SF-Sex–Relationships-Examiner~y2009m3d5-CA-Supreme-Court-defers-Prop-8-ruling
actually, Catholics still might be protected under the civil rights act of 1964…the problem is that the pro aborts now call the abortion pill “contraception” and are objecting to those who won’t give it out (including a lot of pharmacists). If they win that one, the next agenda is giving out euthanasia pills.
WONDERFUL!!! I wholeheartedly agree! Have already written! Thanks!!! Cathy
Thanks so much for this info – I’ve written to my senators and representative AND Mr. Prez. I wouldn’t have known without your blog.
I will call and send emails. But I think we should all begin to understand that they do not give a damn who calls or writes. They are changing the USA and the World as rapidly as they can. Not even the total destruction of all wealth in the USA matters because they are on a mission. Prayer is essential at this point and I think all of the Churches should once again start praying to St Michael. Pope Pius XI asked the faithful to pray it for the restoration of religious freedom in Russia, and it was popularly tied to the Fatima prayer intention of the conversion of Russia whose “errors” were spreading throughout the world. Of course now we are praying that our country is not turned into a socialist state where religious and many other freedoms will be curtailed. This act of Obama goes right to the heart of the issue. I have asked the USCCB to send this out to all parishes to start this after every mass again because of things like this. I feel that only some action like that would get any attention. I have asked the bishops to also request that every Church that cares about life to pray at every service to end this march toward socialism.
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD ENDING: HURRY TAKE ACTION NOW!!Rescission Proposal: 0991-AB49 http://www.regulations.gov/search/search_results.jsp?css=0&&Ntk;=All&Ntx;=mode+matchall&Ne;=2+8+11+8053+8054+8098+8074+8066+8084+8055&N;=0&Ntt;=0991-AB49&sid;=12078CBEF750 On April 9, the 30 day comment period will end in which citizens can voice their concern of President Obama's rescission of the conscience clause. This clause allows medical professionals and organizations (such as hospitals) to choose not to provide services which are contrary to their religious beliefs or missions. This specifically pertains to the performance of abortions and sterilizations. Information on the clause and to make a public comment can be found at http://www.regulations.gov/search/search_results.jsp?css=0&&Ntk;=All&Ntx;=mode+matchall&Ne;=2+8+11+8053+8054+8098+8074+8066+8084+8055&N;=0&Ntt;=0991-AB49&sid;=12078CBEF750 The conscience clause has been in effect since the 1970's, for over 30 years. During that time, abortions and sterilizations have grown in both demand and availability, being readily available throughout the country even in rural areas. Therefore, the existence of this regulation has in no way limited the ability of all Americans to receive these services if they choose. This clause has, however, protected the freedom of both medical professionals and medical organizations (a corporation is legally a "person"). It allows those individuals to conduct their medical work without being forced into any conduct that would contradict their faith views. It allows hospitals with faith-based missions to continue to practice as well. Note that Catholic hospitals are the largest provider of hospital services in the United states. Then consider other hospitals with faith based missions, and you can see the import of this clause to allowing these organizations to exist, as well as see that this clause has in no way limited availability of abortion services. There is an old saying "if it ain't broke, why fix it?". This is true here. After 30 years, this amendment is well tested and has not inhibited the quality of health care provided to Americans. So why now is the Obama administration attempting to rescind this clause? We don't know, but clearly it is not for the purpose of improving health care. What will be the results if this is rescinded? Catholic hospitals across the country, the largest provider of hospital services in this nation, will close down. Medical professionals of all faiths will risk losing their job due to religious discrimination or have to willingly give up their job. So the quality of healthcare IN EVERY SINGLE AREA OF HEALTH will be drastically and negatively affected, as well as religious discrimination and persecution institutionalized in our healthcare system. And all done to force mandatory abortion services that are not even needed because sufficient facilities and personnel exist to provide these. So why now is I the Obama administration attempting to rescind this clause? It makes absolutely no sense.Summary:Our country was founded upon religious freedom. To repeal this clause and force individuals as well as medical organizations to conduct acts against their religious beliefs or corporate mission statements is discrimination. There are sufficient providers of abortion and sterilization services across the country, even in rural areas; it is clearly not necessary to force medical professionals and organizations to conduct these services. This clause has been in effect for over 30 years without causing any undue hardship to the American people. Therefore, there is no sound, need-based reason for rescinding this clause. The reason can only be discrimination against people of faith. In rescinding this clause, our government is potentially ruining our entire health care system simply for the purpose of making abortion mandatory (note, it is already easily available). Even citizens with no particular faith belief can see how their overall health care will be adversely affected by this action. This defies all logic and so can only be hate based. It is important that every American, whether or not of any faith belief, stand up and insist this clause remain in effect for the continued quality healthcare of all American citizens IN ALL FIELDS OF MEDICINE. Don't let a political agenda destroy our healthcare system.
