Father Longenecker,I had a 20 year hiatus from the Church in which I believed that I was truly enlightened. I was very mistaken. Poignant statements such as these truly challenged what I once held as “truth”.Peace, Graubo
Father, I appreciate these quotes. Thanks for putting them together.
Wonderful quotes, and a great blog Fr, I am a new reader, and want to say thank you for writing some thought provoking and true to the faith articles. I am also a new G.K. Chesterton reader. I haven’t read any of his non-fiction yet, but I stumbled upon his Father Brown series, which I am enjoying a lot. My favourite part so far is where Fr Brown tells Flambeaux how he knew he was not really a priest “You attacked reason. It’s bad theology.”
I adore Chesterton! Thanks for the quotes!
I had not heard of him until coming here and now have a few books coming. Thanks Fr!
I read that third one in children’s book when I was ten and it has always been one of my favorite sayings to tell people. Thanks for giving me the proper attribution.
I am a long-time fan of Chesterton. Like Nicola, my first encounter was through the Fr. Brown series – (50+ years ago when I was a HS senior).Father, the last quote you cited describes a certain President-elect “above my paygrade.”One of my favorite quotes is: “Angels fly because they take themselves lightly.” Whenever I’m a little down or sad I think of that quote and it never fails to perk me up.
