Guest blogger Mantilla Amontillado is the founder of Veritas Vestments. She holds a degree in Ecclesiastical Haberdashery from Salamanca University. She has done the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella three times on horseback. In 2016 she entered the Carmelite Monastery of Porto Sangria where she is a novice in the Reformed Discalced Order of St Teresa of the Holy Thorn. Her name in religion is Sister Teresa Berchman de Santo Sudario.
Ok hon. Mother Superior tell me is okay for me to maybe write this post for Fr Longenecker sometime. Here in convent we have only two computers in the library and I have to wait for Sister Rosa de Santo Sombrero to finish her making emails to her mother. Sister Rosa is very young novice and maybe she is homesick, but the other novices think maybe she is writing to her boyfriend. Gossip hon. It is everywhere in the convent.
But let me tell you hon, you know I am making the vestments here in the convent and Veritas Vestments is still going strong. But then somebody tell me it is Reformation Day on October 31. I am asking, what is Reformation? In Spain they never talk about this. I am looking it up and find out that October 31 is day before Todos los Santos. Maybe Reformation is another name for what you say in America? Halloween.
So I spend some more time looking and I find picture of some women dressed up in Halloween costumes like witches. So I show this to Sister Juan de la Cruz and she say they are not dressed up like witches. They are bishops.
No. Hon. This is not possible. These are women. They cannot be bishops. But Sister Juan de la Cruz tell me they are something called Lutheran Bishops. Then I remember something about my religion classes that there is a bishop somewhere a long time ago they are calling Lex Luther and he is against the Superman who was always wearing a cape so maybe these women are dressed up for Halloween wanting to be maybe Superman or the Batman or something and I think it is ok.
I just hope they never write to Mantilla at Veritas Vestments wanting me to maybe make a capa magna for them. This is not good. Mantilla doesn’t make no Halloween costumes hon.
