I discovered this unusual image in El Salvador in the chapel where Archbishop Oscar Romero was murdered. It is, of course, Teresa of Avila–who wears the biretta as a sign of her erudition as a doctor of the church. Now that Therese of Lisieux is also a Doctor of the Church it would be interesting to know if there are any images of her in a biretta…I think Mantilla the Hon might have something to say about this…
