James I is the “King James” of the King James Version of the Bible. He was son of Mary Queen of Scots and takes the throne of England after the death of Elizabeth I. Belloc shows how James establishes the “Divine Right of Kings” which is the same as the nationalism which excludes any external authority like the Church from internal affairs.
