If you are concerned about the Amazonian Synod, the confusion in the church and the tumult in the world, you ought to listen to my podcast on John Allen’s The Future Church. John wrote this important book ten years ago. He tracks ten trends in the world that are going to affect the Catholic Church in the 21st century.
We are now ten years into his predictions and my analysis takes you through and explains the ten trends and how they explain what is happening in the world and in the church today. I recorded this podcast as a sequel to my 23 part series on church history called Triumphs and Tragedies. Together they will help Catholics understand where we have been so we can best understand where we are now and where we may be headed.
This ninth episode draws the themes together in a summary and sketches out the big picture of the church in our age. The final episode, which I will record next week, will be my own reflections on what we’ve learned from the podcast series and what is happening right now with the synod, the papacy of Pope Francis and the rising unrest in the church.
The series does not take an extremist view of the present troubles, but it does point out what is going on and why.
I seriously encourage you to take the time to listen to these podcasts. I have made the abridged versions available here at BreadBox media. Each of the abridged versions are about twenty minutes and contain all the vital information. The full length episodes are available here on the blog-website for Donor Subscribers. They continue the analysis for another fifteen or twenty minutes giving more detail and possible ramifications of the ten trends we are facing.
