A reader has sent me a link to this female Episcopal priest who does not take the usual liberal line that abortion should be ‘safe, legal and rare.’ Instead she preaches that abortion is a blessing.
Here’s the quote:“And when a woman becomes pregnant within a loving, supportive, respectful relationship; has every option open to her; decides she does not wish to bear a child; and has access to a safe, affordable abortion – there is not a tragedy in sight — only blessing. The ability to enjoy God’s good gift of sexuality without compromising one’s education, life’s work, or ability to put to use God’s gifts and call is simply blessing. These are the two things I want you, please, to remember – abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Let me hear you say it: abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Abortion is a blessing and our work is not done.”
Here’s the whole sermon. Is there any sense at all in which the Catholic Church should be in ‘ecumenical dialogue’ with such people? Let’s call it straight. What fellowship has light with darkness?
At least the Rev Ragsdale would agree with me on that much. She and her kind would spit at the Catholic Church. They are just the sort I wrote about some time ago as representative of the ‘new anti-Catholicism.’
Once again my suspicions about the Sisterhood are confirmed. The female priest lobby, the trendy “call me sister but I won’t wear a habbit” Catholic nun lobby are all of the sisterhood of Satan. The vile words spewing out of that Episcopal “priestess” were straight out of Hell. She said, and asked us to repeat over and over, that abortion was a blessing!!!!! Scripture says that Satan is a liar and will get us to call what is good to be evil, in other words the very opposite. When a so-called “priestess” publically urges us to call the murder of un unborn child “a blessing” then we know two things: 1. unless she undergoes a radical repentance she is headed for Hell2. the so-called church of which she is a representative is doomed.
Fr., I just read her entire “sermon” and I am aghast and practically speechless. The level of depravity and hatred coming from her is pure evil. Her thinking is so warped… and it gives me creepy chills to see her reference abortion as “holy work.” This woman is just evil.
I asked myself, what would I do if I sat in a church and heard this from a pulpit. Would I sit quietly, would I get up and walk out, or would I stand up and say something? And if I stood up, what would I say?Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Matthew 23:27
I don’t know whether I’m more chilled or more sickened after reading that.
With “priests” like this, is any wonder churches are on the fast track to hell?It is garbage like that which leads people to elect a man for president who believes having a baby is punishment.Lord have mercy.
It certainly boggles my mind. That’s not really a definition of feminism I would ever want to identify with.
Jesus indeed said “Let the little children come unto me.” He didn’t tell you to tear them out of the womb, dismember them, and send them to him crying. Sacred Heart of Jesus, forgive our land for these blasphemies….
I’m horrified by this too; it’s as evil as it gets. I’ve no doubt that a Catholic priest who preached like that would be disciplined, even in a more wishy-washy diocese. But this does make me reflect that many of our preachers are not nearly as clear about the evil of abortion as they should be– if they even address the topic. And even closer to home, have I ever wimped out when I should have spoken up against abortion?
EDS release: “Ragsdale as its unanimous recommendation for president and dean of Episcopal Divinity School.” It’s appalling to think how bad this all really is…
“When a woman finds herself pregnant due to violence and chooses an abortion, it is the violence that is the tragedy; the abortion is a blessing.”I don’t recognize her god.
Babs, I think his name is Satan.
That is unbelievably sick. Here is another snippet from one of her sermons (it is on the same page):”…I found myself thinking about the Church, its lesbian and gay sisters and brothers, and the Lambeth Conference. Ready to throw the gay and lesbian faithful into the pit to wither and die – having already thrown us there with centuries of denying our existence, much less our vocations; decades of asking us to remain quiet; two years of moratoria on blessing our relationships our consenting to consecrating any of us bishops – the Church, at Lambeth, has conceived the idea of drawing us out of the pit and bargaining us away for a profit. The bargain? Our lives, loves, and vocations sacrificed to buy credit with those who insist we not be tolerated.”So that tells you something more about her…
