It addresses all the democrats in congress and the presidency and points out that the last election was not a referendum on abortion nor a mandate to legislate regarding abortion. The battle has just begun. It is time to write our newly elected politicians and let them know that we will support them if and only if they see the light with regard to abortion and vote against FOCA.I’m unclear on the USCCB’s aggressive pro-immigration campaign. Surely the Church is not so keen on unfettered muslim immigration into Italy and has some respect for national borders and the rule of law. Are the US Bishops really for uncontrolled immigration? This season of advent is so very precious: death to the “old man” so that birth of the “new man” might occur. How incredibly gracious is our God that he offers us, year after year, season after season through His holy Church, another chance to experience His invitation for us to choose eternal life with Him. Wow! Rachel Gray December 1, 2008 at 3:06 amLog in to Reply Father, you’re totally reminding me of the homily I heard today! The priest began by remarking that there’s a group of Trappists who support themselves by making coffins, and a friend of his bought one. “Normally, of course, the coffin would be paid for in advance but not delivered until needed. But my friend chose to have it sent at once. And he keeps it in his living room. He says it’s quite a conversation piece. Focuses the mind. Maybe not a bad idea– an interesting one, anyway– if there were a coffin in every living room….”He went on to say that our daily preoccupation should be with our eternal salvation; he spoke of Our Lady of Fatima and how she urged that we 1) Stop sinning! 2) Pray. 3) Do penance. All to prepare to stand before the judgment seat of God, “as we most certainly all someday will.”I’m so grateful when priests care enough to preach the hard stuff!
